NCHYF Voices: Bringing Street Outreach Experience to DC's Point-in-Time Count
Dan Davis has been a street outreach worker in Washington, DC, for years, connecting homeless young people to services. In late January he joined 350 volunteers in the city's annual count of people experiencing homelessness. As he canvassed the streets, Dan explained what street outreach professionals who work with young people bring to this important civic event.
National Survey on Unaccompanied Youth Homelessness in the U.S. Captures the Scope of the Issue.
On November 15, Chapin Hall at the University of Chicago released results from Missed Opportunities: Youth Homelessness in America, a new national survey on unaccompanied youth homelessness in the United States. Findings show one in ten young adults ages 18-25, and at least one in 30 adolescents ages 13-17, experience some form of homelessness unaccompanied by a parent or guardian over the course of a year. This translates to 3.5 million young people ages 18-25 and 700,000 adolescent minors.
New Report Provides a Snapshot of Youth in Crisis
The Crisis Contacts Report from the National Runaway Safeline and FYSB is a compelling look at youth homelessness. In 2016, the Safeline responded to almost 30,000 requests for help and information.
