Abstract: 

This 1-page fact sheet offers suggestions for preventing violence in the home. It advises parents to (1) teach their children about the dangers of firearms or other weapons; (2) if there is a gun in the home, keep it unloaded and locked up separately from the bullets; (3) avoid hostile, aggressive arguments between parents; (4) seek help from a psychologist or counselor if there is physical or verbal abuse in the home; (5) control the amount of violence your children see in the media; and (6) help children understand the real-life consequences of violent behaviors they see on TV shows, in the movies, and in video games.
