Tips on Core Competencies for Transition Service Providers

In this 4-page tip sheet, the authors outline the core competencies that transition service providers need to be effective in their work with young people who have mental health issues. These competencies focus on 1)partnering with youth and young adults; 2) promoting recovery; 3) supporting empowerment; 4) engaging in partnerships with providers of other services and collaborating to bridge service gaps; 5) providing individualized, developmentally appropriate services; 6) meeting needs in key areas of living; 7) using evidence-supported practice and individualizing interventions; 8) promoting support from family, peers, and mentors; 9) meeting the needs of diverse young people; and 10) evaluating and improving services.
