Abstract:

The author was an original member of the Expert Advisory Group that the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), a grassroots mental health advocacy organization, formed to create a social networking site, StrengthofUs.org, for young adults living with mental health conditions. He describes taking part in the beginning survey, name selection, beta testing, and opening to the public. The site offers personal profiles, Twitter-like messaging, blogs, and groups. The author blogs about his experiences with mental illness in hopes of helping others with mental health problems transition successfully from high school to college.
