This short article discusses alternatives to the most-commonly proffered solution to bullying, which is to inform an adult. It juxtaposes the solutions offered by two experts, Coloroso and Kalman, who both take an approach that aims to diffuse the cycle of bullying and doesn't automatically vilify the bully. The two have different opinions on some aspects of the issue, but both acknowledge that bullying is cyclical. Abuse can create a bully who then passes it on to someone perceptibly weaker. The bullied can easily become the bully. And Coloroso and Kalman agree the cycle must be broken. The article provides practical solutions for parents, and more importantly, for children who are the object of bullying.
