Abstract:

This 152-page, Spanish-language manual was created for adults who teach Hispanic youth about human development and fertility (an English version is also available). It provides factual information about the physical and emotional changes experienced by both boys and girls during puberty. The manual does not cover topics about sexual behaviors, but there are questions and answers available throughout the text in case students ask about this topic. The manual is designed to be fun and engaging. It includes instructions for the trainers; teaching sessions on puberty, female and male fertility, fertilization, concerns about fertility, and hygiene; and a review/evaluation session. Each teaching session includes interactive activities, role-plays, games, and craft-making that promote the mastery of new knowledge and encourage participants to share thoughts and feelings. The manual also has a glossary and list of resources.
