Human Trafficking Prevention and Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention Go Hand in Hand for One Miami Grantee

The PlanBe_ curriculum is a program of Trinity Church, a funded project of the Family and Youth Services Bureau (FYSB), Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention Program (APP). This grantee has brought APP programming to Miami and New York schools since 2006. In 2010, Crystal Agnew, the Deputy Director of the organization’s Peacemakers Family Center, noticed a major change take place in their community.

The National Clearinghouse on Homeless Youth & Families (NCHYF) developed the Get to Know a Grantee questionnaire to illustrate the great variety of youth-serving Family and Youth Services Grantees (FYSB) grantees, to share their insights on the work that they do, and to inspire collaboration and the sharing of experiences and ideas.

Runaway and homeless youth (RHY) are at great risk for trafficking, and until relatively recently, sex trafficking victims were considered criminals instead of victims. Before the enactment of the “Safe Harbor Laws,” minors could be arrested, charged with crimes related to their victimization, and punished accordingly.
