The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) provides direct food assistance to eligible individuals and families in need. USDA's Food and Nutrition Service has developed a fact sheet, Federal Food Assistance Resources, that details several programs and resources that provide direct assistance, including the USDA National Hunger Hotline, the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) state hotline numbers, the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program, and the Summer Food Service Program, which will serve more than 200 million free meals to children 18 years and under during summer 2018. The fact sheet is also available in Spanish: Recursos Federales para Asistencia Alimenticia. Additional information on federal food assistance programs is available on the USDA website. This information may be helpful to Runaway and Homeless Youth Program grantees and other organizations that may need to identify food assistance sources for their clients.
