Whether it’s abuse, the consequences of living in poverty, a lack of empathy and support for their self-identity, or some combination of the three, runaway and homeless youth (RHY) often experience significant challenges to their happiness and well-being. Trauma-informed care can help RHY rebuild a sense of control and empowerment.

This month, we feature Project Oz in Bloomington, IL. In addition to their BCP, MGH, TLP, and SOP grants from FYSB, Project Oz has a special TLP grant to help them implement housing for survivors of human trafficking. In commemoration of National Slavery and Human Trafficking Awareness Month, Lisa Thompson, Project Oz Executive Director, discusses the overlap between runaway and homeless youth and trafficking-survivor services.
